Mercedes-Benz S-Class is all set to launch in India on June 15, and the updated luxury sedan will arrive with significant design changes, advanced cabin technology and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time in the Indian market.
The facelifted S-Class was unveiled globally earlier this year, and Mercedes-Benz has now confirmed its India debut. The updated flagship sedan brings a sharper exterior design, a heavily upgraded cabin and several next-generation comfort and safety technologies aimed at strengthening its position in the ultra-luxury sedan segment.
One of the biggest highlights of the new S-Class is the arrival of the S 450e plug-in hybrid variant. This model combines a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 435 hp and 680 Nm of torque. Mercedes claims the sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds.
The hybrid setup uses a 22 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed electric-only range of up to 100 km under ideal conditions. This means the luxury sedan can be driven in pure EV mode for everyday city use while still offering long-distance touring capability through its petrol engine.
Mercedes-Benz is expected to continue offering conventional petrol variants later, although reports suggest the future of the diesel-powered S-Class in India remains uncertain.

In terms of design, the 2026 S-Class facelift receives subtle but premium styling revisions. The front section now gets a larger illuminated grille with chrome-finished Mercedes star elements integrated into the pattern. The LED headlamps have also been redesigned and now feature three-pointed star-shaped daytime running light signatures.
The sedan additionally receives upgraded micro-LED Digital Light technology, which reportedly improves illumination performance significantly over the previous version. At the rear, the tail lamps now include star-inspired detailing that gives the luxury sedan a more futuristic appearance during night driving.
Mercedes has also introduced newly designed alloy wheels along with fresh Manufaktur paint options for buyers looking for more customisation.
Inside the cabin, the changes are even more noticeable. The earlier dashboard layout has been replaced by Mercedes’ latest Superscreen setup featuring a massive 14.4-inch central touchscreen along with separate 12.3-inch displays for the driver and front passenger.
The new infotainment system runs on the latest MB.OS software platform and supports AI-powered functions, over-the-air software updates, advanced voice controls, Google Maps navigation and connected car technology.
Rear-seat comfort continues to remain a major focus of the S-Class. Passengers at the back are expected to get powered reclining seats, heating, ventilation and massage functions along with large entertainment displays mounted behind the front seats.
Mercedes has also added several new digital convenience features, including facial recognition, video conferencing support, active cabin monitoring and digitally adjustable air-conditioning vents. Despite the heavy use of screens, the company has retained physical controls and scroll wheels on the steering wheel to improve usability while driving.
Ride comfort is expected to remain one of the biggest strengths of the updated S-Class. Adaptive air suspension will likely be offered as standard, while higher variants may receive advanced active suspension technology and rear-wheel steering for improved stability and easier manoeuvrability.

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift is expected to be locally assembled in India, and prices could start from around Rs 2 crore (ex-showroom). The plug-in hybrid version is likely to become the most expensive variant in the lineup.
With electrified performance, futuristic technology and enhanced luxury features, the new S-Class facelift aims to continue its dominance as one of the most advanced and prestigious luxury sedans available in India.
